Almost. There.Pakistan just completed one full polio-free year! The U.N. said the lowest ever polio transmission in the country has provided an unprecedented opportunity to achieve eradication.

The end of the Afghan war has also fueled hopes that a polio-free Afghanistan is within reach.

Interested in local politics? Here's your chance to hear from a range of candidates, in a friendly lunch environment!

The Rotary Club of Clackamas will host presentations by six Oregon gubernatorial candidates during the club’s weekly
meetings, which are held on Thursdays at 12:15 at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Clackamas.
Rotarian Rick Rogoway organized the programs as a way for club members and visitors to meet the candidates in person
prior to the May primary. The candidates will have time to present their views and then answer questions from the
audience.

The speaker schedule follows:
January 27 Bridget Barton
March 3 Tobias Read
March 10 Stan Pulliam
March 17 Tina Kotek
March 24 Bud Pierce
April 7 Christine Drazan

Members of the community are welcome to attend the meetings. Lunch is available for purchase for $15.00.
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million members who unite together to take action and create lasting change – across
the globe and in their communities. Rotary accepts monumental, international challenges such as worldwide eradication
of polio, global access to clean water and fostering world peace.

The Rotary Club of Clackamas is a community service organization. The club’s local and international projects include
building an all-abilities park in Happy Valley, purchasing a shower cart for use by homeless individuals in Clackamas,
providing meals to those in need, and building a maternity hospital in The Gambia. For more information about the

Upcoming speaker John Wentworth will be our guest this Thurs 3/25 @ Noon via Zoom. Contact us for the link!

The future of the Measure 11 maximum minimum prison sentence law will undoubtedly be one of the topics for Thursday's speaker, Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth. A career prosecutor for 26 years, Wentworth took office at the beginning of this year. He recently co-wrote an opinion piece for The Oregonian advocating to keep Measure 11 intact. He has also been in the news by joining many leaders in calling for the resignation of embattled Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull.

Wentworth says he is "focused on promoting public safety through fair and equal justice and bringing solutions to complex issues using data-driven and common-sense approaches."

Fun fact: John is a graduate of Clackamas High School.

Celebrating International Women's Day the best way possible - by making a difference for pregnant women a world away! Many thanks to the individuals & groups who have made possible major improvements to a maternity hospital in The Gambia, Africa.

In the past few years major remodels including modernization, lighting, new bathroom facilities, and now solar power have been completed! Deliveries at night no longer need to be done by the light of a cell phone when the power goes out.

Thank you especially to Ed Gronke, Bob Johnson, Ralph Carter, Abba Sanneh, and Slobodan Petrovic who persevered through unimaginable circumstances to make this a reality. Kudos to you, and the entire Rotary Club of Clackamas along with the Brikhama Society brikamasociety.org/our-partners/ for supporting women in need.
