Wade Hatthorn, GM of Sunrise Water and Runner Extraordinaire presented to our club about finishing three half marathons in three weeks. He and his new bride began their trek to Antarctica by taking a plane from LA to Peru. Landed in Chili where they were to run a marathon before boarding another plane to Antarctica. When they got to Chili, it was in the 60s. They held a logistics meeting there to prep for Antarctica. Had taken all their gear with them and hoped that it was enough. The first Monday morning in Chili, chose to ran a half marathon but when they got to the finish line no one was there. They were all already loaded on a bus because they had been told that they had half hour to get their stuff together and be on a plane. They were on their way.
When they arrived in Antarctica conditions were spring, cold and snow in patches. It was in the 20s and wind chill around zero. Needless to say, it was a good thing that they had spent so much money at Columbia – they have all the gear to keep them warm.
